Daniela Ryf wins her seventh IRONMAN title

On Saturday September 1st Daniela Ryf (SUI) won the 2018 Isuzu IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in South Africa. This is the Swiss triathlete’s fourth 70.3 world title, adding to the three Ironman titles she has.

Like in Kona last year, Lucy Charles finished second, a little over three minutes back of Ryf. In third was the German Anne Haug, who outran Ryf with a 1:15:11 half marathon.

Ryf has now successfully defended her world title from last year and will be looking to do the same in six weeks’ time at the IRONMAN World Championships.

After setting a world best time in July at IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia of 3:57. Ryf clocked a finishing time just over the four-hour mark today with a 4:01:18 clocking. Charles finished the day with a 4:04:58 and Haug a 4:07:21.

“It was really challenging day,” said Ryf at the finish line. “It was a great race with a great atmosphere, and I felt like I was flying over the course.”
